History and Architecture:
In the modern Italian Romanesque manner of the Middle Park Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, this Church is more confined by its site and has none of those extensive transepts. Otherwise, the tall red brick gable form with its candle turrets and multi-arched pedimented Romanesque entry, is similar. The asymmetrical placement of the square tower provides a variation to Fritsch's other work, despite the unfortunate addition at its base. The front facade is vertically divided into three separate areas by the two candle turrets flanking either side of the predominant central bay. The candle turrets project past the finished roof line. The two outer bays, of which the left side is a tower have been strengthened visually by the stepped concrete/red brick edging.
A A Fritsch FRVIA prepared designs under the guidance of parish priest, the Reverend J A Gleeson and H P Grady was the contractor.
